These two devices are Passive Infrared
Motion Detectors (PIR's). The are designed to sense the presense of a
moving person in their field of view. These devices are familiar in
outdoor security lights, burgular alarms, and art installations. The
sensors only detect moving people. These particular devices are
5 volt and have a normal logic-level output, so they work well with
microcontrollers.
