The Qprox® proximity detctor is made by Quantum Research Group Ltd. Shown above is the development board for the QT110, one of their lower end items. Other devices vary in their sensitivity, noise rejection, type of output, ability to self-calibrate, and so on. Qprox sensors sense the presence of your hand to turn on the water in the bathroom sinks at O'hare International Airport.
