These are materials which allow the production or use of mechanical energy. Motors are part of a large class of componants called actuators. An actuator uses heat, electricity, compressed air, or some other form of energy to move objects in space. The thing being moved by the actuator is called the load. Only rarely is the load attached directly to the actuator. Usually there are belts, pulleys, gears, bearings, and/or axles giving physical support to the load and connecting it to the actuator. The general name for the devices in between the actuator and the load is power transmission componants.
