Shaded Pole Motors are the least expensive
type of motor used in consumer goods. They are fixed speed, although
some variation can be obtained with a ceiling-fan speed controller.
Torque increases the current draw only to a limited extent. They have
low starting torque, low running torque, and generate more heat for
their power than other motor types. These motors run on wall current,
120 or 220 volts. A typical application for this type of motor is an
electric fan. This type of motor also comes in a gearhead variety.
Inexpensive when new, Shaded Pole Motors are even cheaper when surplus.

Many electrical suppliers carry Shaded
Pole Motors and Shaded Pole Gearmotors. Surplus is also a good bet
e.g., H&R, C&H Sales, All Electronics, Marlin P. Jones
&
Assoc., and others. See the sources
page for
possible vendors.
